Can I just start out by confessing how slowly I get through a book? I’ve been working on this one for a long time. I don’t just read one book till it’s finished. I usually have two going at once. And I get distracted so easily, even when it’s as great a read as Everybody Always.
So I’m proud to say I finally finished it.
I loved Bob Goff’s first book Love Does and so I had high expectations for Everybody Always. Thankfully it did not disappoint.
Goff’s style of writing is fun and easy to read. I can read 10 pages or 1 page at a time and easily pick up where I left off later. I enjoy the conversational tone and all of his crazy stories. Seriously, this guy is so cool. I need him as my neighbor. Apparently when you hang out with him, you never know what to expect. Out of the blue, this guy just walks into a courthouse in Uganda and expects to meet the judge. And you know what? He does.
I feel like I can conquer the world after reading this book. Just kidding. I feel like I’m totally unqualified to do half the stuff he does. But I know a book to fix that (wink, wink). Unqualified by Steven Furtick is another of my favorite books and author. Maybe I shouldn’t say that I feel like I can conquer the world but maybe just encouraged to step out of my comfort zone a little more.
I am encouraged and inspired after reading Everybody Always. Goff shares a story of regularly greeting a guy at the airport he flies out of frequently. How easy is that? Kindness leads to remembrance. Remembrance leads to a relationship. Small acts count and, in this story of his, it made a big difference in someone’s life.
I love the way Goff refers to his wife in both of his books as Sweet Maria. That feels so precious.
I really enjoyed this book. It challenges me to love greater. The title Everybody Always refers to who and when we should love. We should love everybody (not just those who are easy to love) and we should love always (not just when it’s convenient). That’s a hefty challenge. I’ve thought about it a lot since finishing this book and I hope you will too.
Grab the book and challenge yourself to love everybody always!
